How To Remove Harsh Shadows on Face in Photoshop

Looking on a dark face photo can be irritating sometimes. It may feel like you wasted a sweet moment by not capturing a perfect shot of that particular memory.

There are several factors why this happens. Dark environment, low quality cameras, and mostly because of blocking of light source whether it’s from an artificial light or sunlight.

Thankfully, I found out this method of removing of shadows on face. It’s easy as 1,2,3.. I won’t worry again encountering this kind of problem in a photo. What makes me feel very happy is that I won’t send my photos to recycle bin again!

Steps in Removing Harsh Shadows On Face In Photoshop

  1. Open your image on Photoshop.
  2. Go to Channels Panel, Press Ctrl and click on the RGB.
  3. Go back to Layer Panel,
  4. Press Ctrl + Shift + I to inverse the selection.
  5. Duplicate the selection to a new layer by pressing Ctrl + J.
  6. Change the Blending Mode to Screen.
  7. Press Alt + click on the Layer Mask icon to add a negative layer mask.
  8. Paint on the area that you wanted to lighten using Brush Tool, just make sure the foreground color is white.
  9. You may also use the Healing Brush or Clone Stamp Tool for minor retouching.
  10. Done!
